Latvia is agrarian country, that is why the base of national cuisine are the farming products. The most favorite dish is the pea, bean or pearl porridge, especially if it is served with fried slab bacon. Cottage cheese and bubert (semolina with whipped cream) are also very popular.

Having abused as follows the careless cook, nevertheless neighbours have tasted a new dish. And probably, have been happy. In due course instead of groats they began to use flour.
