Founder of Synthetic Meat will Receive One Million Dollars
|
|
The organization on protection of the rights of animals “PETA” has offered one million dollars to anyone who can create synthetic meat which by the form and by taste will not differ from the real meat. The winner should adjust commercial manufacture of synthetic chicken meat and successfully sell it in territory at least ten American states at competitive price. The jury (ten members of “PETA” organization) will test structure, taste and aroma of the synthetic meat presented on competition and will give it a mark at 100-points scale. To apply for the award, participants should collect not less than 80 points.
Members of “PETA” organization consider that it is necessary to use brainstem cells of animals to manufacture synthetic meat.

Fat Allocates Hormone of Famine
|
|
Canadian scientists assume that fatty adjournment in waist is capable to allocate independently the substance promoting increase of appetite.
By means of research on rats it was possible to determine, that at animals with the increased quantity of fat it is formed more neuropeptide Y which stimulates appetite. Earlier it was considered, that this substance can be synthesized only in brains.
Also it was found out, that neuropeptide Y promotes formation of predecessors of fat cells which then turn to a usual fat. Thus, process reminds a vicious circle: superfluous fat leads to occurrence of superfluous fat.
Though research was spent on animals, Kalping Young the author of work from the Canadian University considers that the similar mechanism can work at people also.
Theoretically, neuropeptide Y, synthesized by fat cells, can get in a brain and cause attacks of famine. Scientists plan to check up this theory in the near future.
New data can lay down in a basis of revolutionary methods of adiposity treatment. It is much easier to influence the fat allocating neuropeptide Y, than to influence a brain.

Iron in Food is Capable to Slow Down Intellectual Development
|
|
Researchers of Michigan University have come to conclusion, that iron which is added in children’s meal for prevention of an anemia, can lead to delay of intellectual development.
As is known, in USA they usually add iron at the rate of 12 mg on liter in a children’s meal, in Europe they use little bit smaller quantity. These measures help to prevent an anemia which is caused by shortage of hemoglobin.
According to Professor Betsi Lozoffa the leading author of research, new data are the big unexpectedness, in fact till this time was considered, that problems in development of children can arise only at shortage of iron.
Scientists surveyed 494 Chilean children. 5 % of surveyed children who in the age of six months had a high level of hemoglobin, that testify to the sufficient contents of iron in an organism, have shown not so good results of intellectual development.
The author of research informs, that experts are going to investigate this problem further. And they recommend parents to concern more responsibly to a choice of food for their children.

Museum of Potato Free in Belgium
|
|
The museum has settled down in Brugge the very city centre. Visitors are acquainted not only with history and recipes of potato free preparation, but also with history of potato occurrence in Europe.
Belgians approve, that a world famous garnish which began to call “French Potato” owing to the British soldiers, who tasted it in Belgium during the First world war, for the first time have been submitted on table in Flanders (region in the north of Belgium) in 16 century.
As they have told in the Belgian professional association of snack bars, uniting 5 thousand cafes, true “free” should have length up to ten centimeters.
At cooking potato they dip slices into “bath” from boiling oil twice. First time it makes them fried from within and second time, after giving them “to have a rest” for some minutes, it forms crusts.
It is remarkable, that it is only 540 grams of “free” turns out from 1 kg of peeled potato.

Medicine Against Stress
|
|
It became clear to a science, why children and adults love ice-cream. It has appeared that it removes stress. Milk and cream contain tryptophan, the effective natural tranquilizer calming nervous system, cheering up, helping to cope with sleeplessness.
As for chocolate which often decorates our favorite cold delicacy…it is long time considered, that it influences brains similarly to drugs.
But recently the group of the American scientists from Bimolecular Chemistry Institute “has rehabilitated” chocolate and cocoa: it has appeared, that concentration in them of unfortunate connections is lowest, besides their majority decays in a stomach, not reaching our brains.
And other researchers have found in chocolate substance, related to adrenaline hormone. It raises blood pressure, makes pulse more intense that means that it is a natural stimulator, as caffeine.
