Separate egg whites from yolks and beat until fluffy.
Pound sugar or honey, butter, spices and cocoa for 5–6 minutes, keep pounding, and add yolks. Then add flour with soda, beaten egg-whites, and knead dough quickly.
Roll dough out 5-8 mm thick, and cut out figures of different forms.
Place the figures on a greased baking sheet, and bake over 446 °F (230 °С) for 10-15 minutes. Let cool until ready to serve. Cakes can be iced with fondant or icings as well (see the recipe).
