The name of this holiday goes back to Jewish “Passover”. In Western Christian world nowadays people use Gregorian calendar and they celebrate the Easter on the 1st Sunday after the 1st full moon after the day of vernal equinox.
On the West, holiday prayer was moved on the evening of the Easter-eve, later (in 14th century)- on the morning. The symbol of Easter Holiday is painted eggs.
The custom to paint eggs is extended everywhere. Priests sanctify eggs and the remaining ritual food at parishioner homes on Saturday. At the evening of Easter-eve they celebrate the night-service. Then, at the morning, they go at home and break theirs fast with eggs. The most important Easter ritual food is eggs, scrambled eggs and omelets. They also prepare meat dishes (pork and veal) and buns. |
