 According the popular USA tradition, it is considered that on this day, February the 2nd, the marmot goes out of his hole after winter sleeping. He examines if the spring have come. If the marmot sees his shadow (if the day is sunny), it will be cold for about 6 weeks else. If the marmot does not see his shadow (if it is cloudy), the spring is near.
The “official” American marmot leaves in Punxsutawney, Pennsylvania. His names is “Punxsutawney Phil”. And the town Punxsutawney is called now “The World Weather Capital”. | |
