 This holiday is celebrated on the 3 of May since 1992 year. The initiative goes from the African journalists, it is approved by UNESCO on the 3 of May 1991 year. They put together the “Windhuksk Declaration” — a statement of free press principles. The Declaration calls for free, independent and pluralistic media throughout the world. The Declaration also asserts that a free press is essential to democracy and a fundamental human right.. Then, in 1993 year, the assembly of UNO decided to proclaim the 3 of May to be the International Day of Press Freedom. | |
